Making Decisions
After you have set a goal or an intention, you must make the decision that you will receive that goal or intention. If you do not make that firm decision, then you will end up procrastinating and sabotaging your dreams. In Think and Grow Rich, Napoleon Hill calls lack of decision the mastery of procrastination. He said that lack of decision was a forerunner to many major causes of failure; that procrastination was the common enemy and something that just about everyone must conquer.
Dr. Hill goes on to say that the most successful people made decisions quickly but changed them, if at all, very slowly. A decision is the act of making up your mind about something with firmness of character or purpose. It is a total separation from the past – from how you used to think and act. Once you make a decision to follow your heart’s desire, you put a total 100% of your time, energy, focus, attention and passion into your new direction. When you make a decision, you cut off any and all other possibilities of failure or retreat. Making a decision has no wishy-washy intent – there are no “maybe’s”, “if only’s”, or “yeah, buts”; there are only absolutes. If you have wishy-washy, half-baked intentions, then procrastination is sure to creep in to sabotage your plans.
When you are ready to make the decision to receive your heart’s desires, you want to commit 100% to your decision. Decide up front that there is not turning back. You can adjust your action steps, if needed, but your goals and intentions ought to be set in stone; otherwise you are not following your heart’s desires but someone else’s.
When you give full commitment to your heart’s desire – giving all of your energy, attention and focus – then your reticular activation system kicks into high gear! Your reticular activation system (RAS) is like your mind’s GPS; it hones in on the resources and people you need to make your goals a reality. For example, you decide to purchase a red BMW. Soon, you begin seeing red BMWs all over the place! Were they there before? Perhaps, but because you were not focused on then, you did not fully and consciously notice them.
Be prepared for whatever Divine Spirit brings to you. People and resources will begin to come your way once you set the decision on course. Some may seem obvious and others will seem highly unlikely. Be open to everything! Your subconscious and super conscious mind knows exactly what you desire and what you need to manifest that desire.
Here is the tricky part: also be prepared to let go of what could potentially interfere will your desires. In order to receive something new, you must make room for it. This means letting go of the people and things that no longer serves.
“To attain knowledge, add things every day; to attain wisdom, remove things every day.” ~ Lao Tzu
“Definiteness of decision always requires courage, sometimes very great courage.” ~ Napoleon Hill
“Not making a decision is a decision; not making a choice is itself a choice.” ~ Søren Kierkegaard
Self-Assessment Reflection Questions:
-
“Have I made a definite decision about my life’s goals?
-
“What do I need to let go of to receive those goals?”
-
“What is one small action I can take right now to make this happen?”
