Persistence Gets the Goal
“Time and again we hear stories about ordinary people who do seemingly impossible things when they find themselves in an emergency situation. They perform herculean feats of strength and endurance, things they never dreamed they were capable of doing. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if you could harness that strength and make it available anytime you need it? You can – if you believe you can.
“No doubt you can remember a time in your life when you were exceptionally focused on your objective, a time when you achieved more in less time than ever before. Perhaps it was an impending vacation that motivated you to get everything done before you departed, or perhaps it was a “must pass” exam that helped you focus your concentration. The intensity that you developed in those situations is always available to you when you have a Positive Mental Attitude.”
This is stellar wisdom from Napoleon Hill. It is when we are persistent and consistent that we achieve and receive our desired intentions. Persistence takes focused concentration and attention. As Dr. Hill states, remember the last time you made plans for a trip or vacation. Did you go on the trip? Of course you did! Why? Because you were focused on making it a reality in your life. You were persistent in your planning and following through on those plans; you were consistent in keeping your energy, attention and focus on those plans. So, what happened? Those plans became a reality – they manifested in your life.
This is the same kind of energy, attention and focus you must give your intentions, your goals and your desires. When you can be persistent and consistent in taking inspired action on your intentions and goals, then you would be amazed at how the Universe rises up to meet you. Resources, circumstances and people appear in your path to help you along on achieving your desired goals.
Being persistent in your action steps does not have to be grueling and demanding. After all, it is your heart’s desire, so it is what you love. If you are having a difficult time maintaining focus or being persistent, then you must stop, take a breath and ask yourself why. Perhaps you are trying to fulfill someone else’s dream for your life. Perhaps you are afraid of pursuing what you really want to be, to do and to have. Perhaps you don’t believe you deserve what you truly desire. Whatever the reason, lack of persistence and focus will sabotage your dreams and goals very quickly.
“The starting point of all achievement is desire. Keep this constantly in mind. Weak desires bring weak results, just as a small fire makes a small amount of heat.” ~ Napoleon Hill
Self-Assessment Reflection Questions:
1. “Where am I not being persistent about my goals?
2. “Am I following my heart’s desire or someone else’s dream for my life?”
3. “How do I know this for sure?”
4. “What is one small action step I can take right now to renew my focus and attention?”
